Trading Leveraged 2X and 3X Double and Triple Funds
You should be especially careful when investing or trading leveraged ETFs like the 2X double and 3X triple funds because they include unique risks, characteristics and fees. The leveraged funds may be intended for short-term or day-trading only and the long-term performance of these funds may be different than the long-term performance of the underlying indexes or assets. Some long-term investors using these funds have experienced significant erosion in their accounts, despite being correct about the long-term direction of a given underlying index or asset, due to the unique nature of these funds, their fee structure and the compounding impact of daily losses.
